Women’s wallets are not like men’s: how to choose this essential womanly organizer

Both men and women make use of wallets, but there are many differences in the ways men and women put the wallet to work. For men, this utilitarian organizer must provide far fewer functions than the women’s wallet. The man’s wallet is an undemanding addition to his pocket. There needs to be a place for paper money, the driver’s license, business cards and credit cards. A spot for a family photo or sweetheart and he’s happy. After all, what else does he need to keep track of on an everyday basis?

On the other hand, women’s wallets are repositories for check books and registers, coupons, coins, insurance cards, grocery checkout discount cards and a great many more family pictures. The truth is, that women’s wallets are often overstuffed. Women are born list keepers and naturally tend to try to keep every receipt, coupon, calendar note, errand list and sentimental item which might ever prove of use in their wallet. Whereas a man’s wallet is a concise collection of money matters, women’s wallets are often lavish displays of every task and requirement of proof of something they might encounter in any given year.

Perhaps this is why women do not confine themselves to women’s wallets. This is the raison d’etre for the purse. When was the last time you saw a woman carrying only a wallet? The purse is where lipstick, a hairbrush, medicines for everyone in the family and a miscellany of objects are stored, on the off chance they might be needed. We women reserve the wallet for items we deem to be possibly necessary to functioning outside the home. We must be prepared for every eventuality.

While men disdain coupons, we diligently hoard them, with every intent of using them. Men tend to collect the change from their purchases in the bottom of their pants pockets. Any self-respecting woman’s wallets must have a compartment for change. At the checkout, we open the coin compartment and tediously count out the nine cents, annoying the checker with the time it takes to do this. However, when we leave the store, we have got a paper dollar in our wallet for this effort, instead of more coins.

If you have cleaned out your spouse’s pockets before doing the laundering, what do you find? His wallet, coins, keys and a candy wrapper. You deposit these items on the dresser, marveling at his lack of neatness. How can he just stuff a bunch of crumpled bills, outside of the wallet, inside the pocket? How gauche and what a disorganized mess! it is just the way they are.

Women’s wallets are larger, thicker and contain many more specialized compartments. we have got little leather inserts to hold our pen, to write a check or make a list. Our wallets might have keyring holders and a slot for a notepad, to make our interminable lists, which men are so fond of making fun of, while expecting you to remember everything from birthdays and payment dates to school events and this week’s sale on his favorite steak.

Now, in the interest of fairness, it must be noted that women’s wallets are indeed, overstuffed. Slap my wrist, but my wallet is in dire need of cleaning out. it is burgeoning with outdated coupons and receipts for a pack of gum that i will never use on my tax return. However, I can and do produce every essential document required to leave the house with peace of mind. it is just a matter of finding it.

Women’s wallets are a universal institution of information. Rare is the woman with a neat and tidy wallet. If my husband were to peruse my wallet us contents, I’d never hear the end of it. But, he can rely on me having every necessary and extraneous bit of life’s documentation. When choosing a proper wallet, pick a big one!
