Trundle Bed Frames

It is amazing how much company you have depending upon where you are located. My husband and I had a large five bedroom home on twenty acres of land out in the country. We did a great deal of entertaining, but rarely had over night guests. In the twelve years that we lived there I can think of five or six times when someone stayed overnight. Six years ago we bought a small house on a lake. We now have overnight guests a couple of times a month. It seems everyone loves to stay up by the lake.

We have a large loft area in our A-frame house. This area is the master bedroom suite. The lower level has a three quarters bath and two small bedrooms. The larger of the two bedrooms has a full size bed in it. We had to decide how we were going to set up the smaller bedroom to accommodate the number of guests that we have. There was not room for a full size bed. We thought of bunk beds, but the way the room is set up the upper bunk would block the window to the room. We also wanted to use this space as a small office area so we also considered a sofa sleeper, but most of them were too large. We were discussing this in a furniture store when the sales person suggested a day bed. We looked at the day beds and discovered trundle beds. This is a twin size bed that is a bit higher off the floor to accommodate a trundle bed frame to slide underneath it. The trundle bed frames are designed to pop up and be the same height as the twin bed when then are pulled out. When the trundle bed frames are raised and connected to the twin bed they create a king size bed. The trundle bed frames can also remain lowered to create a second twin size sleeping area. We thought this would be a great solution for this small room. The bed we chose had the wood frame around three sides so it resembled a day bed. I bought a body pillow and covered it in fabric that matched the bed spread. I placed this against the back frame so that when the bed is not needed it can be used like a sofa. We bought a queen size bedspread which hangs down to the floor and hides the extra mattress that is under the bed on the trundle frame. This looks very nice in the small room and creates a comfortable sleeping space for one or two people when needed. For us this was the best alternative to accommodate guests.
