Thanksgiving Kids Crafts
Want to give your kids a fun activity to participate in during the Thanksgiving holiday, or need to distract them while preparing Thanksgiving dinner (while responsibly leaving them supervised if necessary, of course)? Thanksgiving kids crafts are a great way to do that. Theyre enjoyable to make and they usually dont require expensive materials. In most cases, simple things like paper, scissors, glue, and some coloring implements will do. Other materials and fancy extras can be purchased at a local crafts store, though you probably can find cheaper products at a convenience store or even for free around the home.
The turkey is to Thanksgiving like the bunny is to Easter and Santa is to Christmas, so most crafts have to do with creating some version of the big feathered bird. Theres the paper bag turkey, the tissue paper turkey, the pinecone turkey, the balloon turkey, the turkey hat, and the turkey puppet. If you want to kill two turkeys with one stone and have your kids make crafts that have functional purposes, theres the turkey napkin holder, the turkey placemat, the turkey chair cover and the turkey breadbasket. More complicated Thanksgiving kids crafts are the turkey piata and the terra cotta turkey planter, if you have the time, materials and patience.
But we all know that turkeys arent the only important Thanksgiving characters. Other Thanksgiving kids crafts like the pilgrim hat, corn husk puppet and cornucopia pay homage to the pilgrims and Native Americans that represent the more historical aspects of Thanksgiving. These craft projects are a fun way to teach kids and remind them of the reason why we gorge ourselves once a year in the fall.
Some tips to ensure a smooth craft making session: If your kids are younger, you may want to supervise them especially if theyre dealing with more complicated and potentially dangerous materials like papier mache and hot glue guns. Make sure there are plenty of materials for everyone so that no one fights and ruins the holiday mood. Remind your kids to take care of the materials, like making sure to close glue bottles and putting the caps back on markers, and to keep the work area clean so that materials dont go to waste and there isnt a huge mess to deal with afterwards, tempting you to cancel any plans for Thanksgiving kids crafts for next year. Finally, encourage your kids to be creative and have fun, which is what crafts are all about.
