Tattoos and body piercings evoke images of thugs or punks, or people who are tough with an attitude. There might be a correlation, but just because you have a tattoo or piercing doesnt necessarily mean that youre part of a certain subculture, and vice versa. All sorts of people from different walks of life get tattooed and pierced. The biggest reason is probably because its cool, even if it sounds superficial. Sometimes tattoos and piercings have a special meaning behind them, but theyre visual modifications of the body and they cant help but have aesthetic value. Even if theyre covered up with clothing, someone has to see it eventually, right?
Why or why not should you get tattoos and body piercings? Some people like to express themselves through body art, while others refrain for health concerns or religious reasons. Ultimately, its your body and its your choice. Just be prepared for others who want to have a say in what you do to your body.
But admittedly, thinking about getting a tattoo or a body piercing is a big decision to make, though a tattoo might be a bigger deal since its pretty permanent. So its wise to think carefully about the prospectare you sure you want to do this? Dont forget that theres money, pain and potential permanency involved. If the answer is yes, then move forward and consider the practicality. Of course, fashion doesnt care much for function, but its a good idea to at least think about the consequences. Remember that aftercare is important so that you dont get infected. If youre in a line of work where tattoos and body piercings are inappropriate, then you might want to get them somewhere it wont be seen easily by others. Also consider how body modifications will affect daily tasksfor example, a tongue piercing might change the way you eat.
Choosing to get a tattoo or piercing doesnt guarantee that youll be happy with it, but getting one doesnt guarantee health hazards or regret. It depends on how well you think it through and how well you adjust to having it. Tattoos and body piercings have been around forever, so theres no rush in making a choice, though you might not want to wait until society decides youre too old for them to be fashionable on you. Then again, who cares what other people think?
