Windows supports either .ttf, .otf or .pfm font formats. The .ttf format is a TrueType Font, the otf is an OpenType Font and the .pfm is a Type 1 Font. Any other format will not be recognized by word.

Most word font downloads usually come win .zip files to make the download faster and less prone to errors. In order to install a new font, locate the fonts tab under the Appearance and Themes section in the Control Panel and point to the unzipped contents. Your fonts list will then be updated with the new contents which will then be reflected in your Microsoft Word fonts selection box in your applications. Word fonts are especially popular because of their universality and as a result, they can also be found in the internet. Since fonts are an important factor in communication, they are similar to handwriting and thus convey not only the message in a clearly decipherable way, but they also have tones and an artistry of their own. Comic Sans for example have a playful and Arial style reflects a more serious tone. Therefore when using Microsoft Word fonts, take time to consider these elements and thus offer your documents the visual impact that matches the tone and professionalism of your documents.
