Lord Of The Rings Audio Book

We all want to encourage our kids to read and the idea of purchasing a Lord of the Rings audio book might not sit well with some parents. However, the audio version may turn out to be a great tool for encouraging your child to read. You may be surprised to discover that a kids interest in a tale can be heightened with this kind of tool.

When I was younger, I couldnt stand reading. I actually hated it. The whole process was dull and difficult for me. I just didnt want to struggle through trying to take in information through written words. Many kids are like this but they can be prompted to pick up a book if they are given the right motivation.

We werent really surprised when my sister started to complain about her sons distaste for reading. She couldnt get him to creak open a book. I decided to buy him a Lord of the Rings audio book as incentive to get him interested in reading. While my sister wasnt thrilled with the idea, she wouldnt deny her son the opportunity to listen to his favorite story.

There was a bit of a catch, though. I also bought the text to go along with the Lord of the Rings audio book. He could page through the text while listening to the story. This worked pretty well. Actually, it worked great. He wound up enjoying the Lord of the Rings audio book so much that he also began taking an interest in the text as well.

So how did his wise old auntie know that he would be prompted to read by using a Lord of the Rings audio book? I actually had a similar experience. However, my story was Star Wars. My older sister had the book but it wasnt until I listened to a tape of the story that I wanted to start reading. After I finally did read the book, I was hooked.

Sometimes it takes a little motivation to get kids encouraged to crack open a book. Ironically, it was a Lord of the Rings audio book that did it for my nephew. What I love about the whole experience is his response to the book verses the audio version.

He has mentioned how the characters seem different when he reads them then they do when he hears them on the Lord of the Rings audio book. This is a very interesting topic suitable for a college-level discussion.
