Learning to Pay Attention

Pay attention!. Have you ever heard someone tell you that? Likely, you had let you mind wander and before you realized it, 10 minutes had passed and you had missed everything that was being said. Attention deficit is a common problem for many people. In fact, it is said that if you can keep your mind focused on one thing for one minute, you can achieve anything. Most people likely do not qualify and as a result, we are going to see how you can keep your mind focused and thus achieve a lot, if not anything you desire.

One of the things that bring about changing thought patterns is learning new concepts. When you are learning abstract thoughts and concepts, your mind tends to begin thinking broadly and as a result, you may find yourself drifting from the normal day-to-day activities. Having a lot of ideas, thoughts and concepts in your mind will likely result in distracting thoughts. Attention deficit can be a real problem in a classroom setting or in an office meeting. Interestingly, it usually does not take a lot to find yourself drifting. An exciting comment by a lecturer may be all that is needed to start you out on the mental excursion. As you can see, you will miss out on a lot unless you learn to control your thoughts and be focused.

Attention deficit can be controlled by learning to control ones emotions. Usually, the drifting is more engaging when it involves degrees of boredom and excitement. You need to learn self-discipline. One way you can do that is to take sometime each day to analyze your thoughts and freshen up so that when you get into class or into a meeting you will have resolved your mental battles and you can now settle down. Yes, you need to put forth some effort in your fight against attention deficit.

Interestingly, researchers have found that your sleep habits can play a part in your abilities of concentration, memory and thinking ability. If you deprive your body of the needed sleep and rest, it will present you with the bill that is translated into memory lapses, slow ability to think and, yes you are right, attention deficit. It is also important to watch what you eat. While junk food may taste great, it tends to reduce mental sharpness. If you want to be alert, think of eating protein-rich foods before an activity that will require a lot of concentration. Many things in life require effort and this is true even in paying attention.
