How To Transfer A Rose Plant From a Pot To The Garden!
Planting roses in the garden
It is important when transferring a rose plant from a pot into the garden that when you remove the rose from its pot you keep the root ball intact to avoid disturbing its roots. Water the rose plant in well and make sure they are well watered in before winter sets.
In the colder climates, a newly transferred rose plant will probably appreciate a winter mulch for its first winter. Use either a mound of soil or compost or even a clean thick layer of straw which has no seeds or weeds in to help protect the rose plant’s crown. Whilst this may not be absolutely necessary, this sort of protection is usually beneficial in the first winter especially if you have a late snowfall. You shouldn’t need to do this in subsequent years.
Wait until the ground has begun to freeze if you do decide to mulch with straw and use coarse straw with no seeds. The problem with seeds is that it may attract mice which could then damage and possibly kill the roses.
