Halloween Decorations

Christmas has long been the traditional holiday where people pull out the stops to colorfully decorate the inside and outside of their homes. In recent years, Halloween has been giving Christmas a run for its money when it comes to home decorating. Today you can find just as many elaborate Halloween decorations available to buy, rent or even build for yourself as you can for Christmas. Completely different approaches to decorations but just as much fun!

Unless you are throwing a party, most folks put up their Halloween decorations outdoors. This could mean turning your well manicured front lawn into a makeshift cemetery complete with tombstones and eerie statuary. Fake foam tombstones can be bought at most Halloween stores and come in all shapes and sizes. These decorations would be just as easy to make by cutting out plywood and painting them grey. You can then write out your own death notices on your tombstones with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

One of the more imaginative Halloween decorations you can add to your front yard cemetery is to have skeleton hands popping up from the dirt. You can get even creepier by finding some mannequin arms and legs and have them positioned to look like someone is trying to dig their way out of a grave.

Moving up from the lawn, you can add other Halloween decorations to the outside of your house for a creepy look and feel. Orange twinkle lights are being sold to string around trees and bushes or around windows. Christmas tree light companies are getting into the act by putting out a line of Halloween decoration lights such as strings of ghosts, witches and skulls. After youve hung up your Halloween theme lights, you could also consider stringing rubber bats and spiders from your trees and bushes as well as skeletons and scarecrows. For extra chills think about adding spider webs everywhere. You can buy fake spider web in a package or pull apart cotton and hang that for the same effect.

Just like there are Santa statues for Christmas, there are also all many of statues of the Grim Reaper that can greet your guests upon arrival. Some of these statues are equipped with motion sensors that trigger movements and ghoulish noises. And you can go wrong for Halloween decorations then with the classic Jack-o-lantern carved pumpkin. All of these Halloween decoration ideas are perfect to either welcome or scare off trick or treaters!
