Energy Efficient LED Landscape Lighting
I recently spent a significant sum of money to have landscapers come in and overhaul my backyard. Before, it was nothing but a big open space with a lawn and a fence. It was serviceable as far as yards go, but it was definitely boring and not at all aesthetically pleasing. I wanted to change that because I like sitting outdoors enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, so that’s why I had all the landscaping done. Now I’ve got some trees, shrubs, and flowers out there, as well as a rock garden, koi pond, and deck for barbecues. This was money well spent!
But I’m not quite done yet. I still need to buy some LED landscape lighting to illuminate the area at night. I don’t have so much as a porch light, so once darkness falls, the entire yard becomes pitch black. Obviously I don’t want to limit myself to using my backyard only during daylight hours, so LED landscape lighting seems like a reasonable investment.
I mentioned this plan to a friend of mine, and was surprised when it drew a few objections. There are cheaper outdoor lights available, he said, so why don’t I check some of those out? Well, those types of lights might be cheaper initially, but I believe that LED landscape lighting will come out on top in the long run. For one thing, LED landscape lighting is far more energy efficient than traditional lights, so I’ll save money on my electric bill each and every month. For another, they’re low voltage, which translates to lower overall energy use and longer lasting lights. That sounds like the perfect combination to me!
I’ve been looking around for LED landscape lighting online and have found a number of options. These lights come in a variety of styles and designs, so it might take me a while to make a decision on which ones to buy. For instance, I can have the lights built right into the ground to illuminate a specific pathway, or I can purchase miniature spotlights that can be aimed in specific directions. Those seem to be the most popular choices among homeowners. In addition, there’s LED landscape lighting in specialty fixtures such as lanterns, globes, and even flowerpots.
I’m leaning towards the spotlight design because then I’ll be able to highlight certain sections of the yard. For instance, once my rose bushes are in bloom, I want to point a couple of lights their way so I can enjoy them at night. I also have a lovely maple sapling that would benefit from having LED landscape lighting aimed its way, and of course I want to be able to check on my koi at night too.
Well, whichever style I settle on, I’m sure the LED landscape lighting will improve my backyard even more. I need to place an order soon so I can start sitting out back on these beautiful summer evenings!
