Decorating Library Bookcases In Your Home
Anyone with a home library or any type of book collection will have library bookcases that they use to store their prized possessions. Some homes have entire rooms that are filled with these shelves and they have enough books to fill them all. Others have a few here and there, but they are used for the same purpose. Depending on your dcor ideas, these can be rather bland when they are stacked high with book after book, no matter how much you love those books. There are some ideas out there for making these more attractive and interesting if you want to do something different.
Your library bookcases do not have to look like they came straight from the library. Those shelves are stocked to have the most books in the smallest space while making it easy to find what you need through the Dewey Decimal system. That does not have to be the case in your home. You can stack them side by side in an order if you wish, but you can also lay some on the side and stack them in different ways to get a different feel. In some cases, this small touch may be all that you need to liven up your library bookcases.
You do not have to use your library bookcases for just books. You can use them for anything else that you think would look good there. Some things are too messy and need a drawer to contain them, but there are things that can go on your cases easily and neatly. Things like DVDs and video tapes can go on your bookcases if you wish, or you can store photo albums and scrapbooks on them if they are wide and deep enough. Mix these up with your books in different sections and you have something a bit different.
In some homes, there are very interesting things that are done with library bookcases and other storage type shelving. If you have books, move them around so they are not taking up all of the shelf space. You can then add decorative touches like vases, glass art, picture frames, and small keepsakes in different spots either between the books or in front of them if you have the shelf space. This breaks things up and keeps things interesting, and is a great way to add a personal touch to your library bookcases.
No matter what you decide to do with your library bookcases, you can make them look better without moving around your books. You may not have the room or the inclination to add more and that is okay. Just make sure the cases are stained to match the rest of your home and that you keep your books dusted to protect them and cut down on sneezing. Books are notorious for collecting dust, and you can only use so many of them at once. Dust them often and you may find that is enough to keep your bookcases as you want them to be without any extra touches at all. Go with what your personality desires.
