Choosing Color Schemes

Color schemes factor into nearly every visual experience that we have. Integrating the right combination of hues in your life can have a profound impact on your mood as well as your general well being. Determining which color schemes to use in your world can pose some challenges for many of us.

Of course, you want to surround yourself with hues that you love. This makes perfect sense. However, in order to be part of a real color scheme you have to work with different tones of the hues. And you have to decide which colors do, or do not, belong together.

While this may seem simple on the surface, there is a lot that goes into the whole process of choosing color schemes. One great tool for helping you along on this endeavor is your computer. This surprising resource offers a lot of valuable information as well as steps that you can take to create the perfect combinations for your personality and style.

Some online resources offer color scheme wheels that you can play with for endless hours. These resources serve as a kind of practice pallet for your eyes. You can take in the different combinations, play with different tones and make some magnificent creations on some color schemes sites.

I have used these online resources for a number of different projects. The most outstanding is my kitchen. Ive always been a fan of neutral tones but when I moved into a home that boasted red counters, my attitude quickly changed. The color schemes in this room made me feel energetic and peppy.

My newfound energy could possibly be attributed to my red counters so I decided to work with different color schemes that played with this tricky tone. Red is particularly difficult because there are so many various shades of red to consider. The first step is to work with the color schemes to see which kind of red is right for the project.

Reds have basic undertones. These undertones are either blue or orange. You have probably seen color schemes with the orange-red tones and some that lean more towards the purplish tones. The kitchen called for something warm so I opted to play with the orange undertones.

The results are fantastic. Im so glad that I took the time to play with the various color schemes so I could accent my red countertops with plates and wall art that matched the warm hue.
