Bathing baby safely with lots of fun too
If you are a new Mom, you are probably just beginning to realize that there are all kinds of new skills that you need to learn to take care of your little bundle of joy. One of these tasks is bathing baby. If you have never bathed an infant, you may be terrified at the prospect. Babies are so tiny and your head is filled with worries that you might do something wrong. Read on to see just how to approach baby bathing safely. you will soon be an old pro and you and your baby will look forward to bath time.
you will first want to buy a baby bath, if you have not already received one as a gift. The baby bath usually has folding legs, which makes it a snap to position securely in the kitchen sink. The kitchen sink is just the right height to handle baby safely and will save your back. You also will not risk slipping or making awkward reaches as you would in the bathtub. The baby bath has sloping sides and a comfortable, secure fit for your baby.
When bathing baby, you want to avoid cold drafts so baby does not catch the sniffles. Have a couple of baby towels and a washcloth ready for the event. Check the baby bath legs to be sure they are firmly in place. Wrap baby in one of the towels and gently set the infant in the bath. Unfold the bath towel and drape the edges over the sides of the bath. This makes it easy and quick to catch any water that might start to run into baby’s eyes.
Use baby shampoo to get some sudsy water going on the washcloth. Gently wipe baby’s skin with the washcloth. Use tepid water, just warm enough to be comfortable for baby. Remember that bathing baby is new to both of you. Be gentle and take some time for play. Just a little soapy water in the eyes can put a baby off bathing as a fun activity. Just as you test the temperature of baby’s milk, test your water temperature frequently.
If you have a spray attachment at your kitchen sink, it will come in handy to carefully and thoroughly rinse all of the soap off. The hardest part of bathing baby is shampooing your baby’s hair. If your baby already has a fine head of hair, you can use your sudsy washcloth, with most of the water squeezed out, to clean the hair. Rinse your washcloth thoroughly, then use several changes of plain, warm water to wipe baby’s head.
When baby’s all fresh and clean, lift the infant out and swaddle the cute one in a fresh, dry towel. Use baby lotion to keep baby’s skin moist.
that is all there is to it! you will be an old hand in no time.
