For centuries, the english have been eating apple pies, mainly using Bramley or Granny Smith apples and spices. In some regions, there is a tradition of serving a slice of cold pie with a wedge of crumbly cheese.

Ice Cream is popular served on a warm apple pie but you can include twice cream or custard. Recipes for apple pie are also a country tradition in the Netherlands. Flavorings such as lemon juice and cinnamon can be often used. Raisins are used too and liquer is sprinkled over sometimes. The pie is usually served with whipped cream or ice cream.

In the USA, this dessert is extremely popular and coffee and pie is is a particular favorite order in restaurants. However, a fantastic homemade pie is prized. American apple pie recipes have been around as long as the 18th century. They are quite often twice crust and contain cinnamon, ginger or nutmeg. A sweet pie a preferred option, so there is abundance of sugar.

Another variation of the original apple pie recipe is the apple strudel on the tradition and this is is a particular favorite treat in Austria, where the very thin pastry used to make it was perfected.

The pastry filling contains apples, sugar, bread crumbs, raisins and cinnamon. Other ingredients can occasionally include rum, walnuts, pine nuts or almonds. It’s the custom to sprinkle the finished product with powdered sugar and to serve warm.

Excellent tarts by the french are an unique variation available in both sweet and savoury. Tarte Tatin is the French interpretation on apple pie recipes. It’s a tart which is upside down and the apples are caramelized in sugar and butter right before baking. In contrast to most other emerging recipes, this particular one calls for firm dessert apples, rather than cooking varieties. The tart can be made with other emerging fruit too, including pears, peaches or pineapples.

Apple Pie Recipes – My favorite

My dearly beloved however is the Apple and Blackberry Pie. The tangy flavor of the blackberries complements the sugar. The ratio best used is just under half berries to apples. The purple juices make it extremely colorful and this combination works a treat!
